Official: Jaguar to Build C-X75 Hypercar with the help of Williams F1, Production Limited to 250 Units

The super rich automotive collectors of this world will soon have one more choice to add to their list as today, Jaguar officially confirmed the limited production of its flashing C-X75 hypercar that drew much attention at last year’s Paris Motor Show.

To be developed in cooperation with Williams F1, the C-X75 will make use of hybrid powertrain with Jaguar aiming to have the car on sale in 2013. The British maker said only 250 examples will be built, each costing between £700,000 - £900,000, or US$1.16 million to US$1.44 million at today’s exchange rates, depending on market and local taxes.

To have it in the market within a considerable timeframe, Jaguar will replace the jet-powered setup of the original concept with a more conventional, yet still innovative for today’s standards, powertrain comprising of a state-of-the-art, small-capacity, highly-boosted internal combustion engine with one powerful electric motor at each axle offering all-wheel drive capability.

Jaguar’s revised for the 2012 model year XK series in Coupe and Convertible form made its world premiere alongside the refreshed XF and XFR sedans at this week’s 2011 New York International Auto Show. The changes on the XK are more subtle than on the XF and are purely cosmetic.

The mild redesign shares many elements with the flagship 550-horsepower XKR-S revealed at the Geneva Motor Show in March.

2012 Jaguar XF Facelift Makes World Premiere at New York Auto Show

The new model year brings a refresh for Jaguar’s XF and XFR sedans, which were both revealed in a world premiere today at the New York Auto Show. The British firm’s BMW 5-Series rival receives restyled front and rear bodywork, along with some subtle changes inside and for certain markets including Europe, the introduction of a new four-cylinder turbo diesel engine.

On the outside, Jaguar tried to bring the XF into line with the new XJ, though some may also see common themes with the original C-XF Concept, especially up front with the new and sleeker headlamp designs that incorporate LED daytime running lights arranged in a distinctive Jaguar ‘J-Blade’ signature.

The 2012 XF benefits from revisions to the grille, hood, and front fenders, which incorporate new triangular side vents, while Jaguar also added larger tail lamps with full-LEDs for stop, tail light and turn signal functions. In addition, the trunk lid trim has been redesigned. The XFR’s newly styled bumpers and alloy wheels complete the exterior makeover.

2008 Jaguar S-Type

2008 Jaguar S-Type

The Jaguar S-Type is available in three different models for 2008. The S-Type 3.0 has a 3.0L V6 engine making 235 horsepower; the S-Type 4.2 has a 300-horsepower 4.2L V8; and the high-performance S-Type R gets a supercharged version of the 4.2L making 400 horsepower. All three models have a six-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive.

All three models have strong acceleration. The 3.0 can dash from zero to 60 mph in 7.5 seconds, while the 4.2 takes 6.2 seconds and the R can make it in an especially frisky 5.3 seconds. They're electronically limited to a 121-mph top speed.

The S-Type's standard suspension uses aluminum extensively and is designed for sporty handling, stability, and a smooth ride. The S-Type R comes with the eCATS suspension system, which provides stiff body control to handle the extra power yet doesn't sacrifice ride quality. The system can change the damper settings from soft to firm in milliseconds to provide crisp handling when it's needed; otherwise they follow a softer setting for comfort.

The S-Type R also gets higher-capacity performance brakes, plus big 19-inch Z-rated tires. Visually, the R has stainless steel exhaust tips, a rear spoiler, and Satin Mahogany interior trim, along with performance sport seats and leather trim for the steering wheel and shift knob.

The S-Type brings all the safety features that are expected of a car in this price range. Along with front-passenger side air bags and full-length side-curtain air bags, the S-Type also comes with dynamic stability control (DSC) and anti-lock brakes with emergency brake assist (EBA).

Inside, all S-Types feature soft-grain leather-trimmed seating throughout, and on all models but the R, rear-seat passengers get a roomy contoured backrest that is split 60/40 and folds forward to provide access to the trunk area and expand storage space when

2009 Jaguar XK S

2009 Jaguar XK S

Jaguar is a luxury-car manufacturer that marries comfort, style, and speed in both sedan and sports car form. It was founded in the United Kingdom by William Lyons in 1922; the company originally produced aluminum motorcycle sidecars. The first true Jaguar, the SS1, was launched in 1931, and the Jaguar name was given to the car in 1935. The XK120 was released in 1948 and offered high horsepower and high speed. It was the precursor to Jaguar’s involvement in racing. During the 1950s, the company enjoyed five victories at Le Mans, in part due a competitive advantage--the company was one of the first to use disc brakes on the race track.

Jaguar introduced the Mark VII sedan in the United States in the 1950s, and its success prompted the similarly elegant Mark VIII and Mark IX. The subsequent XJ6 and XJ12 sedans have become known for their traditional English approach to luxury. In 1961, Jaguar brought to the U.S. the smooth, high-performance E-Type sports car, which was replaced in the 1970s with the less sporting but similarly powerful XJ-S luxury coupe. Two Le Mans victories, in 1988 and 1990, reinforced Jaguar’s performance reputation.

In 1990, Ford bought Jaguar and folded it into Ford’s Premier Automotive Group. Ford’s resources helped Jaguar expand its production and product line. The result was the debut of the XK8 and XKR sports coupes and convertibles in 1997. The company tried to offer a more economical, entry level sedan with the X-Type in 2002, but the vehicle, based on a modified Ford platform, did not fare well in the U.S. With the 2003 XJ, Jaguar became the first manufacturer to produce a vehicle with an aluminum unibody construction--a structure still used by today’s XJ sedans.

Ford’s poor financial performance, combined with weakened sales at Jaguar, prompted Ford to sell Jaguar and Land Rover to Indian manufacturer Tata in 2008. Jaguar sold approximately 14,960 cars in 2008 and hopes to build on that number in 2009 with its three models. The XF model is the entry-level luxury car, the XJ8 is the flagship of the XJ luxury car series, and the XK offers sports-car speed and style.
